An original 2 story Levitt Home on Long Island, looking at real estate sites giving square footage is maxed out at just over a thousand sq. The curved window wall on the facade of this 902-square foot ranch house is clearly visible by looking at the floor plan. This modern detail creates an "outside-in" sense of space. Note also the size of the garage at 264 square feet, which is nearly a third the size of the house. Fireplace view with fireplace makeover, and built-in bookcase removed. We do want to do some type of bookcase on the side of the fireplace. And we are still unsure what we want to do on the ceiling. In-person the ceiling isn’t as orange, but I do want to lighten it…we would love to hear what you would do on the ceiling! We need to decide before the wood floor get’s installed. We are building a window seat and a built-in desk on one side of the window and a bookcase on the other side. This home is in a really nice area, with a private community. We learned through our first home purchase to focus on location FIRST, we didn’t love the location. But, we were able to make money on it because it was a new area and we were one of the first to buy in.
The exterior has a covered front and rear porch, as well as a generous three car garage. Upstairs is a large game room and bonus space. Ranch style homes are generally one story low pitched homes with large picture front windows and sliding glass doors which open to the patio in the back.
Starting over would have taken a lot longer and cost a lot more. Buying a “new home” was not even on our radar, we wanted mature landscaping and a developed area. An architect friend of mine had a situation with row houses where the difference of a few inches in each house resulted in one less house that would fit on the block.
Blue Windows– I don’t think it will work if we paint our home the darker color, but I really like the idea. This is more of a white-washed effect on the wood. Which I don’t think we will do, but fun to see. We have decided to leave the rock and not paint it . We do want to over-grout between the rocks .
This way the door swing doesn’t interrupt the flow of the bedroom. That window could also have a window seat with storage. This home design is not only a modern ranch, but it is also a flexibly-designed ranch. Alternate plans let the homeowner select the placement of the bathroom and utility room.
Right now, I’m kinda in love with the one that has an octagon-shaped breakfast room! I also found the plan that looks like a house I drooled over in an ad in my FB mid-century ads group; I’ll have to link it. The 1,011 square feet of living space in this plan seems to be on two levels, with the basement creating the third level of this "three-level contemporary" home. It's a beautiful example of mid-century modern split-level design.
Although consisting of a single level, these homes are not restricted to a small size. Homes can come in three bedroom sizes for couples and retirees up to five bedrooms for larger families. Large windows and glass patio doors allow for natural light to enter the space and make it feel more airy and spacious. The layout of the home can be changed up to accommodate strangely-shaped lots.
